The Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen on Tuesday confirms ongoing efforts to increase tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
According to the minister, the government has begun efforts to draft two additional air service agreements to realize this objective.
Sharing the ongoing initiatives to enhance Maldivian tourism in an interview the state media, the Minister said that the government’s hope and target is to make the fullest use of the traffic rights that Maldives will acquire through these agreements.
Work on these agreements launched earlier, but stalled for various reasons. The Minister highlighted that fresh impetus in the same initiative proved fruitful this time with new direction.
Maldives also recently signed an air transport agreement with Ethiopia, marking the sixth time Maldives has established such an agreement with an African nation.
Under this agreement, direct flights from Addis Ababa are scheduled to touch down in the Maldives. Additionally, an agreement was formulated with Australia to initiate direct flights under which the Maldivian national airline, is currently operating direct flights to Australia.
