George Corbin, who is regarded as one of the main pioneers of the Maldivian tourism industry arrived in the Maldives to partake in the celebratory activities commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the country’s tourism industry.
Corbin arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday morning, 15th February, along with his daughter Georgia Corbin. The two were welcomed warmly at the Velana International Airport (VIA) by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and Minister of Health Mr. Ahmed Naseem.
While addressing the local press, Corbin highlighted the strides made by the Maldivian tourism industry collectively over the past 50 years. Furthermore, he admitted being humbled to be able to participate in the celebratory activities.
One of the first events Corbin will partake in is the “Upbeat” talk show forum alongside other Maldives tourism pioneers. The forum has been scheduled for 17th February at the auditorium of Maldives National University (MNU).
Other members confirmed for the forum include Minister of Health Mr. Ahmed Naseem, who is widely regarded as a prominent figure of the tourism industry as well as the Chairman of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry Mr. Mohamed Umar Manik, and Mr. Hussain Afeef who is one of the most notable figures in Maldivian tourism scene.
Mr. Corbin is credited for bringing in the very first tour group to the Maldives back in 1972 when the tourism industry debuted in the island nation.
