    Tourist arrivals observe 43.9% increment from previous year

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives observe 43.9% increment from same period of last year

    According to the most recent statistics from the Ministry of Finance, tourist arrivals in total so far in 2022 have reached 171,982.

    Moreover, the total arrival count as of 09th February has observed a 43.9% increment when compared with the same period in 2021 during which the arrival total stood at 119,501.

    During the same period of 2020, the arrival count as of 09th February stood at 219,667 and in 2019 the arrival total had reached 208,826 by the same period.

    Meanwhile, the daily average of tourist arrivals on a year-to-date basis stood at 4,300 which is by factoring in the daily arrival average of 4,250 for January and the average of 4,469 from 01st until 09th February.

    On the other hand, the duration of stay slipped from 9.0-days in January to 8.9-days from 01st until 09th February.

    Despite intensifying tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the former continues to remain as the strongest tourist market to the Maldives with 28,468 arrivals so far which are 16.6% of the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives.

    United Kingdom continues to rest in the second spot with 18,348 arrivals so far (10.7%) while India is ranked third with 13,947 arrivals (8.1%). Germany is currently the fourth-ranked source market with 13,331 arrivals (7.8%) and Italy is ranked fifth with 12,529 arrivals so far (7.3%).

    So far, a total of 35 international airlines operate in the Maldives which includes Aeroflot, Condor, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Lufthansa among several other carriers.
