    Ankara, Türkiye – April 13, 2025:
The Maldives has officially inaugurated its embassy in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, marking a significant step forward in diplomatic ties between the two nations. The embassy was formally opened during a ceremony held yesterday, attended by Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Khaleel, Türkiye’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, and Maldives Ambassador to Türkiye, Lieutenant General (Retired) Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef.

Speaking at the opening, Minister Khaleel described the establishment of the embassy as a historic milestone in the Maldives’ foreign relations, emphasizing its importance in enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

“This embassy symbolizes our commitment to strengthening our diplomatic presence and expanding relations with Türkiye, a longstanding and valued partner,” Khaleel stated.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the newly opened mission will play a key role in advancing the Maldives’ foreign policy objectives, while also providing essential consular services to Maldivians residing in Türkiye. The embassy is expected to become a critical hub for engaging with the Maldivian diaspora and fostering deeper people-to-people ties.

Minister Khaleel also underscored the value of establishing a diplomatic presence that is easily accessible to Maldivians living in Türkiye, reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting its citizens abroad. He highlighted that the embassy would actively work to promote Maldivian culture, tourism, and economic prosperity, in line with the country’s international outreach goals.

Türkiye’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, echoed these sentiments, noting the growing collaboration between the Maldives and Türkiye, particularly in the sectors of education, tourism, culture, and economic development. He expressed optimism about the future of the bilateral relationship, citing increasing momentum in joint initiatives and cooperation.

The opening of the embassy marks a new era in Maldives-Türkiye relations, building on a foundation of shared interests and mutual respect. It represents not only a strategic diplomatic move but also a practical step toward enhancing regional partnerships and supporting the Maldivian community abroad.
