President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that development project completions are projected to peak in 2027, while several of the ongoing projects nationwide are scheduled for completion this year.
The President made the remarks during the sixth episode of The Pulse, a podcast series produced by the President’s Office. This week’s episode focused on infrastructure development projects currently underway across the country.
During the episode, the President also listened to the views and concerns expressed by members of the public and addressed several issues raised by citizens. Responding to concerns over delays in some development projects, the President assured that physical works would resume shortly following the successful navigation of recent economic challenges.
He explained that development efforts are being carried out according to specific schedules across various sectors, with additional projects expected to be completed by 2028. President Dr Muizzu also emphasised that, while a sustainable medium- to long-term development policy is being implemented, essential services must be accessible to every citizen on every island to an appropriate standard, and work towards this goal is ongoing.
The second segment of the podcast featured an interview conducted by Avas Media senior journalist Ahmed Shuaau. During the discussion, the President provided updates on several key projects being undertaken as part of the country’s development efforts.
Noting that many island council offices were in a dilapidated condition when the current administration took office, the President said work is underway to construct modern council offices. He expressed hope that these facilities would be operational by mid-2027.
He further highlighted the numerous projects being implemented to develop council offices, stating that council administrations on approximately 100 islands are expected to be operating from new buildings within the next two years.
Highlighting transportation infrastructure as one of the most vital components of national development, the President emphasised the significant economic and social benefits of airport development projects. He also noted that, when managed effectively, such projects can become sustainable and viable ventures.
Providing an update on the Thilamalé Bridge project currently under development in the Malé region, the President said the project is now progressing at an accelerated pace following previous delays. He expressed confidence that the bridge would be completed in the near future.
The President also provided comprehensive responses to questions regarding development initiatives in Addu City, the Maldives’ second-largest population centre after Malé.
Concluding the sixth episode of The Pulse, the President identified the relocation of the commercial port from Malé to Thilafushi as the Administration’s flagship project. He assured that the major undertaking is scheduled for completion by 11 November 2027.
