The Non-Resident Ambassador of Algeria to Maldives, Mr. Abderrahmane Bengurrah and the Ambassador of Netherlands to Maldives Ms. Bonnie Horbach have presented their credentials to Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
President Solih welcomed the Ambassadors to the Maldives. He congratulated Mr. Bengurrah on his new appointment, and notes that Algeria and Maldives are “deeply rooted in the Islamic faith and share common cultural values”. Moreover, President Solih also shared the country’s commitment to enhancing bilateral and multilateral engagements.
Ambassador Bengurrah stressed on the “historic friendship and good relations between the two nations”, while he highlighted areas of mutual interest and cooperation. Maldives and Algeria established diplomatic relations in 1988.
Speaking with the Netherlands Ambassador, President congratulated Ms. Horbach on her new appointment. The two also discussed ways on strengthening the existing ties between the countries.
President Solih also expressed hope that the Dutch government will consider easing visa requirements for the Maldivians. He also spoke on expanding cooperation between countries in the fisheries sector. President Solih also expressed hope of reducing tariffs levied on Maldivian fisheries exports to Netherlands.
Maldives President and the Dutch Ambassador also discussed ways to increase training and higher education opportunities for local students, as well as other areas of mutual interest including tourism, climate change adaptation and mitigation as well as regional security. Ambassador Horbach also expressed interest of Dutch private sector companies investing in the Maldives.
