Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed the Kudagiri picnic island will welcome its very first picnic-goers this Saturday, 11th February.
The corporation on Thursday, 09th February, confirmed that the island is now available for booking. Bookings will be made through the island’s official website/application. Additionally, HDC confirmed that access to the island is possible only through a booking.
Booking opportunities opened officially from 16:00hrs, Thursday onwards.
Kudagiri picnic island, part of the current government’s pledges to provide a safe and public space for the locals to visit and enjoy during holidays, has the capacity of catering to between 500 to 600 people at the same time.
However, HDC said that only 300 will be allowed on the island’s grand opening day.
HDC has arranged ferry services between Male’ City and the picnic island, which will charge MVR 25 per person per trip, and free of charge on public holidays. Picnic-goers must also pay MVR50 as entrance fee, and children below the age of 12 will be charged half of that as entrance fee.
Visitors arranging their own transfer to the island must pay MVR 250 if they wish to berth their vessel in the island for half a day, and MVR 500 for full-day.
Apart from the entrance fee, picnic-goers can book to use the huts available in the island. Visitors have to pay MVR 250 for half-day use of the smaller huts and MVR 500 for full-day use, and MVR 1,200 for full-day use of the larger hut.
