The Maldives Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has said that the government is looking to press 225 charges against Hassan Mamdhooh, the embattled director of K-Park; a luxury-tier residency project in the Maldives.
Mamdhooh is looking to face charges of graft and embezzlement, and deceptive acquisition of payments from property buyers.
Although the director has been released after his initial arrested for the alleged charges, Maldives Police Service have confiscated several expensive items discovered from his residence.
The Maldives PG, at the press conference on Thursday, November 30, said that the state can press 225 charges against the director based on all available evidence. He further revealed the possible involvement of two others in the scandal.
PG Shameem further said that the state was considering to press the charge of money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act, 2014. State is also looking to press additional charges of forgery, fraud, and loot against the director.
The charges, as per the PG, have been elevated due to the multiple counts of fraud against several victims. Shameem said that a total of 41 apartments had been sold to 107 individual parties, with the state intent on processing each victim’s case individually.
Mamdhooh had allegedly sold multiple properties of the K-Park Residencies to various parties by misrepresenting the details of the apartments while forging the signature of the majority shareholder of Hanbo Company, the local agent of South Korea’s HanboTech; the developer of the real-estate project.
