Moderna said it is suing Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech for patent infringment tied to the development of the first Covid-19 vaccines. The US biotech company alleges the mRNA technology it developed prior to the pandemic had been duplicated by the party it is gearing to sue. The lawsuit, which reportedly seek an unspecified financial damage had been filed both in the US and Germany. Cumulative total of state expenditure hits MVR22.56 billion as of 18th August, reports Ministry of Finance. According to the state body, state earned a cumulative total of MVR17.8 billion in revenues. Revenues to the state are inclusive of foreign grants. So far, state spent 73% of the budgetary total of recurrent expenses. Remaining 27% of capital expenses. On the other hand, 73% of state’s earnings came from tax sources, remaining 27% from non-tax sources. The overall balance for the period is a deficit of MVR4.73 billion. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach 1,056,851 by late August, reports Ministry of Tourism. According to the state body, as of 24th August 2022, tourist arrivals to the Maldives observed an annual increment of 45.0% compared to the same period in 2021. Tourist arrivals for the same period last year stood at 729,053. However, tourist arrivals for 2022 was still 4.8% below in comparison to the same period in 2019, during which the arrival total reached 1,110,662. Meanwhile, the daily arrival average is at 4,478.
