The governor of Leningrad Region posted a video on social media on Saturday, 19th November 2022, of gas pipeline explosion outside St. Petersburg, Russia. “Firefighters and rescuers extinguish a fire caused by a gas pipeline depressurization between Berngardovka and Kovalevo,” Leningrad Region governor Alexander Drozdenko said, adding, “There is no threat to the population and the spread of fire to residential areas.” Meanwhile, the exact reason for this explosion has not been confirmed as of now. Budget Committee of Maldives Parliament has approved MVR6.4 million in the 2023 state budget towards the development of Arabiyya School. The rundown condition of one of the oldest public schools in Male’ City had attracted public criticism earlier. Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceeds 1.42 million as of 16th November 2022. Ministry of Tourism, in their most recent statistics, confirmed tourist arrivals had reached an annual total of 1,421,907. This is a 30.7% annual increment when compared with the same period in 2021, during which arrivals reached 1,088,170. Despite this, arrivals in annual terms is still 3.0% below that of the same period in 2019. Arrivals in annual terms by the corresponding period reached 1,465,490. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announce it will launch the Raajje-Transport Link (RTL) test trips in Lhaviyani atoll next week. The service commencement planned for Lhaviyani atoll marks the second phase of MTCC’s RTL; nationwide integrated ferry network. Meanwhile, the project’s contractor, MTCC, earlier dispatched speed boats to the atoll prior to service launch. The cumulative total of state expenditure has hit MVR31,819.1 million (MVR31.8 billion) as of 10th November, which is just MVR2.3 billion shy from hitting approved budgetary total for 2022. On the other hand, revenues inclusive of grants reached MVR22,971.3 million (MVR22.97 billion) by the review date, which is MVR1.33 billion short of reaching projected total revenue of MVR24,279.9 million (MVR24.3 billion) for the year. Maldives Parliament on Wednesday, 16th November passed the bill proposing hike in GST. In a bid to boost state earnings, Ministry of Finance earlier proposed hiking General Goods and Services Tax (GGST) and Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST).
