Saudi Arabia’s flagship carrier Saudi Airlines (SAUDIA) launches its scheduled flight operations between Maldives and Singapore, operating four days on a weekly basis. The regular flight landings between the countries will be extended four times weekly with scheduled landings on every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Saudi Airlines commenced its operations to the Maldives first in March 2016. The Male’-Singapore flights complement SAUDIA’s twice-a-week service from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and two weekly flights from King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah to Maldives.

The most recent update from the Ministry of Tourism attests the total tourist arrivals reaching close to 900,000 as of 18th July 2022. As per the government body, the total tourist arrivals in annual terms (from January until 18th July) reached a total of 892,960; which reflected a 58.2% increment in comparison with the same period in 2021. State Electric Company (STELCO) is reportedly in the plan to develop a new powerhouse outlet in Greater Male’ Region with a maximum output capacity of 100 MegaWatts. Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives is set to conduct a series of inspections on local cafeterias and general shop outlets, to assess adherence to tobacco regulations. The authority will conduct the special awareness inspection in collaboration with all relevant state bodies and authorities. HPA along with its partners will inspect all outlets of interest established in Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’. Joali Maldives on Monday, 18th July, temporarily closed down its doors for repairs after substantial property damage owing to bad weather. The luxury tourist resort reported the property’s main platform connecting the inland with the overwater villas damaged beyond use due to a rainstorm and strong gusts.
