    Tourist arrivals to Maldives inch close to 1.5 million

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives inch close to hitting 1.5 million by November's end

    According to Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals to the Maldives has inched close to 1.5 million as of 30th November 2022.

    The most recent statistics disclosed by the ministry confirmed total tourist arrivals by the review date has reached 1,491,236. This marked a 28.8% annual increment when compared with the corresponding period in 2021. As per statistics, arrivals for the same period last year stood at 1,157,653.

    Furthermore, tourist arrivals exclusively for the month of November was recorded at 146,879 which is a mild 1.5% increment when compared with the same month last year, during which arrivals reached 144,725. The arrival count for November 2022 indicated a moderate 6.5% increment when compared with the same month in 2019, during which arrivals had reached 137,921.

    Moreover, this annual arrival total was now only 2.6% below the same period in 2019, during which arrivals had reached 1,531,539.

    Maldives is currently receiving an average of 4,465 travelers in annual terms. On other hand, for the month of November exclusively, Maldives received an average of 4,896 travelers per day. The average duration of stay for 2022 in annual terms is 8.1 days.  While for the month of November exclusively it was at 7.7 days.

    Tourist establishments in the Maldives is at a total of 1,202 inclusive of 170 resorts, 875 guesthouses and hotels and 157 safari vessels – at registered capacity – with a combined bed capacity of 60,239. Moreover, the total 1,197 are currently operational, which include 166 resorts, 875 guesthouses and hotels and 157 safari vessels – with a combined bed capacity of 59,351.

    Meanwhile, a total of 32 international airlines operate to the island nation; carrying travelers.
