The bank says this update aims directly at customer convenience, specifically regarding banking requests. Customers now will not see the feature to send banking requests through the messaging feature within the digital banking applications. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as the new Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), placing a veteran tax official at the helm the country’s revenue authority. The State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited (State Pharma) has launched efforts to stock a full range of antibiotics in the Maldives as the country steps up its fight against antibiotic resistance. Speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu programme, the corporation’s Managing Director Dr. Shah Mahir said the Maldives needs access to every class of antibiotic to tackle the growing threat of drug-resistant infections. Cybercrime in the Maldives has exploded this year, and fraudulent online shopping leads the charge. Police statistics show reported cybercrimes jumped more than 105% in the first six months of 2026 against the same period last year. These crimes all rely on the internet and technology to reach their victims. Maldives Police Service logged 512 cybercrime cases in the first half of 2025. That figure climbed to 1,053 over the same stretch in 2026. Investigators are now working 884 cases this year.
