Maldives Fund Management Corporation (MFMC) has announced the reclamation of 16 islands at K. Gaafaru Falhu. MFMC contracted Atoll Works Private Limited on Wednesday, May 08, 2024. MFMC announced under the project, 14 private islands and two luxury resorts will be developed at Gaafaru Falhu. Additionally, 40 hectares of land will be reclaimed under the project. The large scale reclamation comprises of 106.91 hectares of land, making it the largest reclamation initiative in a single lagoon. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) this week has confirmed of receiving De Havilland Canada’s endorsement certificate. With this, the world’s largest seaplane operator has become the first in the Asian region to receive the recognition. De Havilland, a prominent Canadian aerospace company provides the twin-otters to TMA. According to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) in their Quarterly Business Survey for 2024 first quarter, the employment rose for businesses in all sectors except for the wholesale and retail trade sector. Besides this, tourism sector reported a moderation in the pace of new hires during the review quarter. For the wholesale and retail trade sector, the rate of decline in employment levels moderated compared to the preceding fourth quarter in 2023. Maldives International Financial Services Authority (MIFSA) on Sunday evening, unveiled its official logo. The Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed shared the official logo of the new government institution on X, adding its administrative and operational proceedings were afoot with strategies and operational framework currently being finalized. Maldivian, the national carrier of the island nation, on Sunday, May 05, 2024 reports that the newest addition to its fleet will arrive in three days. The national airline confirmed that the new ATR aircraft will be heading to Male’ from Toulouse, which will be operated by Captains Mohamed Mubah and Ali Yanish along with flight engineer Ahmed Abdul Hakeem. Maldivian is currently adding ATR’s more contemporary aircraft to its fleet in an attempt to fully replace the older Dash-8 Twin Otters, of which the manufacturer no longer provides new spares or aircraft.
Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in annual terms have reached 794,109; a 12.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
