The Maldives government on Tuesday, has awarded the design and build of Addu Link Road project to Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Besides the design and build of the link road, RDC has been tasked with establishing drainage systems on the structure.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure on Tuesday morning between the Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and DC Managing Director Ali Zuhair.
The project costs MVR 829.9 million while RDC has been conditioned to complete the project within three years and nine months.
Scope of the project includes modernizing the link road and drawing asphalt on a length of 67.58 kilometers of CTB roads, install drainage systems in Feydhoo, and develop road pavements.
Additional project particulars include installation of road indicators and sign boards.
The link road that connected Hithadhoo with Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo and Gan began back in 2001 during the administration of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and was completed and put to use in 2003. The road was developed under a USD 7.9 million loan facility from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
