Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Wembley on Sunday, booking their place in a third straight FA Cup final and keeping their hopes alive for silverware this season. Goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol proved decisive in a dominant display.
City struck early, with Lewis finding the net inside two minutes after being set up by the influential Mateo Kovacic. Given time and space on the edge of the area, Lewis drilled a low shot into the bottom corner, immediately silencing the Forest supporters.
The early setback rattled Forest, who struggled to get a foothold in the game. They finished the first half with just 25% possession and failed to register a single shot on goal.
Forest introduced Anthony Elanga at halftime in a bid to change the momentum, and he almost made an instant impact, but he scuffed Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross wide just a minute into the second half.
City made Forest pay for that missed opportunity. Just five minutes later, Gvardiol rose highest to head home an Omar Marmoush corner, notching his sixth goal of the season and doubling City’s lead.
Chasing their first FA Cup final appearance since 1991, Forest came close to pulling one back. Morgan Gibbs-White rattled the crossbar with a powerful volley after beating City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Moments later, Gibbs-White rounded Ortega but struck the post from a tight angle.
Forest’s frustration continued when substitute Taiwo Awoniyi hit the woodwork again, and Gibbs-White’s follow-up header was saved by Ortega, all but confirming that it wasn’t going to be Forest’s day.
City professionally saw out the remainder of the match, securing a record-extending seventh consecutive FA Cup semifinal victory. They will now face Crystal Palace—who defeated Aston Villa 3-0 on Saturday—in the final on May 17.
