President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the need to prioritise national unity and development over political divisions, declaring that patriotism must take precedence over political currents.

Speaking to the residents of Velidhoo as part of his official visit to the inhabited islands of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll, the President delivered a strong message urging elected officials and local leaders to set aside political differences for the greater good of the nation.

“Political affiliations must not hinder the responsibilities of elected office,” President Muizzu stated. “The success of our developmental agenda depends on the united support of Parliament Members and Councillors across party lines.”

Addressing the community gathered in Velidhoo, the President made a passionate appeal for cooperation and collective action. He urged public officials to work together, regardless of conflicting views, to fully realise the government’s plans for economic and social progress in the region.

Reaffirming his commitment to national unity, President Muizzu stated that true patriotism lies in putting the country’s interests ahead of personal or political ambitions. He emphasised that safeguarding the dignity and long-term stability of the Maldives requires renewed patriotic commitment and a unified national vision.

“Only by prioritising national interest and restoring a deep sense of patriotism can we ensure lasting development for our country and future generations,” he said.

The President’s remarks come amid an ongoing nationwide tour focused on engaging with island communities, reviewing developmental needs, and reinforcing the government’s pledge to inclusive progress.
