    Maldives attracts over 575K tourists in 2021 so far

    Ministry of Tourism reveal over 575K tourist arrivals to Maldives so far in 2021

    The island nation of Maldives has attracted over half a million holidaymakers from January until July 2021.

    According to Ministry of Tourism, the country was visited by a total of 575,931 tourists from 01st January until 21st July 2021.

    The arrivals to Maldives in 2021 so far already reflect on strong economical improvement in comparison with the previous year, given the arrivals in the current year have already exceeded the annual total of 2020.

    Ministry of Tourism in their latest statistics revealed that the total number of tourist arrivals in 2020 stood at just 555,494 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as near three-month border closure from 27th March until 15th July of the previous year.

    Moreover, the latest statistics reveal that Russia remained as the top tourist market to Maldives in terms of single-market with a total of 136,955 arrivals while India ranked second with a total of 94,927 arrivals.

    On the other hand, arrivals from Germany reached 31,617 so far putting the country at the third spot in terms of single tourist markets.

    Tourist arrivals based on monthly basis reveal a total of 65,382 arrivals so far in July whereas it stood at just 767 during the corresponding period in 2020 while it was at 88,507 in 2019.

    Maldivian tourism industry suffered a major blow in 2020 following the global pandemic of Covid-19 which had resulted in the entire economic sector’s activities coming to a standstill. However, the recent statistics reveal that the island nation is slowly recuperating from last year’s economic ailment.
