The Maldives Zakat House has completed the distribution of Fitr Zakat for the year 1445 AH, issuing a record MVR 6,000 per person to all individuals registered in the national registry of the poor and needy, the highest per capita amount in the history of the country’s Fitr Zakat programme.
Among this year’s beneficiaries were 62 orphaned children who qualify as eligible recipients under Zakat guidelines.
The distribution follows what official described as a record-breaking collection season, with total contributions exceeding MVR 14 million. Of that amount, MVR 13,896,000 was allocated directly for disbursement to registered recipients.
To broaden access and simplify the contribution process, the Zakat House accepted payments through seven digital platforms. A dedicated portal was also introduced for island councils to deposit cash Zakat collected from their communities, catering to those unable to make payments online. In the Greater Male’ Area, contributions were also received in person via cash and card at the Islamic Center hall. Zakat in the form of food grain and staple crops was additionally accepted and distributed.
Officials noted that the adoption of a digital monitoring system enabled real-time tracking of collected funds throughout the campaign, reinforcing transparency and equitable distribution across all registered individuals nationwide.
The Zakat House said the milestone reflects both growing public participation in the annual obligation and the effectiveness of modernized collection and distribution systems.
