The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published the names of 48 taxpayers who failed to file their Income Tax returns. The list covers corporate entities, non-corporate businesses, and individual taxpayers.

MIRA released the disclosure as part of its ongoing enforcement drive. The authority confirmed that all 48 parties remained non-compliant as of the end of December 2024. The list features registered companies alongside smaller business entities and individuals operating across various sectors.

Before making the names public, MIRA took several steps to alert the concerned taxpayers. Officials contracted each party by telephone and explained the legal consequences of continued non-payment. The authority also dispatched multiple SMS reminders over an extended period. Despite these efforts, the listed taxpayers did not meet their filing obligations.

MIRA stressed that it applies its enforcement policy uniformly. The authority will continue to pursue unpaid taxes and other state dues without exception. Officials urged every non-compliant taxpayer to file outstanding returns immediately and clear any pending liabilities to avoid further action.

The MIRA taxpayer non-compliant list serves as a clear warning to businesses and individuals who delay their tax obligations. Public disclosure often pushes defaulters to act quickly, and MIRA expects similar results from this latest round.

However, the authority recognizes that some taxpayers struggle to pay large sums at once. To address this, MIRA offers flexible repayment arrangements. Taxpayers can approach authority directly to negotiate settlement agreements or set up structured instalment plans. These options allow defaulters to regularize their status while managing cash flow pressures.

The latest MIRA taxpayer non-compliance announcement reinforces the message that tax evasion carries real reputational and financial risks. Businesses listed publicly faced potential damage to their commercial standing, MIRA encourages all taxpayers on the MIRA taxpayer non-compliance list to engage with the authority and resolve their duties without further delay.
