President Dr. Mohamed and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed left for Colombo on Sunday afternoon on an official visit. The trip runs from May 3 to 6. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended the invitiation.
President Muizzu’s Sri Lanka visit will see the leader meet senior officials in Colombo. Moreover, both heads of state plan to strengthen existing diplomatic ties.
Talks will cover several priority sectors. Specifically, the two sides will explore cooperation in education, technical training, and economic collaboration. Additionally, the leaders aim to boost coordination across regional and international forums.
Both Presidents will also witness the signing of new agreements during the trip. These deals span multiple sectors of mutual interest. Furthermore, President Muizzu will attend the Maldives-Sri Lanka Business Forum. He will also meet members of the Maldivian community living in Sri Lanka.
President Muizzu’s Sri Lanka engagement follows President Dissanayake’s earlier trip to Malé. The Sri Lankan leader traveled to the Maldives from July 28 to 30, 2025. Notably, his visit coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both nations formally established ties on July 26, 1965.
Overall, President Muizzu’s Sri Lanka trip promises to reinforce cooperation across trade, business, and policy fronts.
