    Maldives Welcomes Over 123,000 Tourists in June

    The Maldives has welcomed over 123,000 tourists in June, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

    According to the ministry’s reports on June this year, total number of arrivals fell 12% below the same month last year, but it was still 0.2% higher than June 2024. As per the report, Maldives welcomed a total of 123,552 tourists by the end of June.

    A total of 1,067,543 tourists have visited the Maldives during the first six months of this year.

    As per the ministry’s report, tourist arrivals increased in January and February compared to the corresponding period last year. However, arrivals slipped from March to June, which the government attributes to the ongoing Middle-Eastern conflict.

    Monthly Tourist Arrivals

    • January: 227,403
    • February: 254,556
    • March: 161,259
    • April: 152,861
    • May: 142,555
    • June: 123,552

    China leads the tourist source markets with a total of 168,677 arrivals, Russia is in second place with 150,187 arrivals. UK is third with 86,477 arrivals while Italy is ranked fourth with 73,928 arrivals. Germany is maintaining fifth spot with 67,133 arrivals while India is ranked sixth with 62,932 arrivals.

    Other source markets making up the top 10 spot include France in seventh with 29,593 arrivals; which is a major difference in arrival numbers compared to the sixth ranker. USA is on the eighth spot with 26,914 arrivals, Australia is at ninth spot with 24,174 arrivals. Switzerland is ranked tenth with 21,256 arrivals.

    The Maldivian tourism industry currently consists of 179 operational tourist resorts, which contributes a total of 44,977 beds; 928 guesthouses, which contributes a combined total of 16,704 beds. Other tourist properties include 173 safari vessels and 16 hotels, which contributes a total of 6,169 beds. The total bed capacity of the industry is currently 67,850 beds.
