The State Trading Organization has wrapped up another edition of Dhekunu Foari, its annual gathering of employees based in the south of the country, after six days in Hithadhoo.
The format mixes competition with classroom time. Staff were split into five teams and scored on points across the week, with an overall winner declared at the end. Volleyball, chess, badminton, table tennis and carrom all ran as tournaments, each producing a first, second and third place.
The training side was the other half of the programme. Participants sat sessions on first aid, fire awareness, telephone handling protocols, team building, and prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Staff traveled in from across STO’s souther network: L. Fonadhoo, Fuvahmulah, Thinadhoo City in Gaafu Dhaal, Hulhumeedhoo and Addu City.
A dinner night closed out Dhekunu Foari 2026. STO’s Managing Director attended along with several other senior company officials, and prizes went to the teams that placed in the week’s tournaments.
The event is run once a year by STO Recreation Club (STORC). The stated purpose is to bring employees working in scattered parts of the country into the same room, strengthen working relationships, get them operating as a single team, and build skills and capability across the workforce.
