Sunday, 08th August – The latest updates from Ministry of Tourism reveal over 630,000 tourists visiting the island nation so far in 2021.

According to the state body, they have recorded a total of 630,943 holidaymakers flying into Maldives from 01st January up to 04th August 2021.

The island nation has been gradually recovering from the heavy blow felt during the nationwide outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020.

Meanwhile, back on 16th July the Ministry of Tourism had reported an annual total arrival of 555,006 tourists to the island nation and by the end of the month the annual total had exceeded the entire annual total of 2020 which stood at 555,494.

Moreover, tourist arrivals to Maldives so far report a significant 63.7% increment in comparison with the corresponding period of 2020.

Ideally the tourist arrivals have shown up-movement following state imposed easements to previous restrictive measures as well as border-reopening for South Asian markets. Furthermore, the daily average of tourist arrivals saw a spike from 18,27 during June 2021 to 4,644 by the first week of August.

In addition to this, key tourist markets to Maldives such as Russia or India have made strong or full recovery already showing positive signs of growth while newer markets from the European peninsula and the Middle-East have emerged.

According to the most recent figures, the top source markets to Maldives remain Russia with 145,293 total arrivals so far with India following closely behind with a total arrival count of 108,959 on year-to-date basis.

Other major markets include Germany with an arrival count of 35,483 while source markets such as USA, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia along with other European destinations had maintained steady growth momentum.
