The 7th World Media Summit has officially opened in Beijing, China.
Senior Executives from Maldives’ Public Service Media (PSM) and key figures from the Maldivian media industry are taking part in the summit, which runs from November 5th to 9th.
Jointly organized by the Xinhua News Agency and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government under the theme “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action,” the summit gathers approximately 500 delegates representing over 330 organizations from 112 countries and regions. Participants include media organizations, researchers, government agencies, and international organizations.
The event serves as a platform to discuss the impact of rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies on media management and the future of journalism.
Speaking at a forum during the summit, Aminath Namza, Chairperson of state media PSM, highlighted the importance of keeping humans at the center of AI development and raising public awareness about these technological shifts. She also emphasized that in a rapidly advancing digital age, it must be ensured that small nations and their native languages are not left behind.
A report released by Xinhua News Agency on the summit also featured Namza’s remarks, noting the expanding role of the “Global South” – or developing small nations in shaping the frameworks and standard for new technologies.
The Maldivian delegation at the summit also includes PSM Executive Director and Company Secretary Abdulla Rameez, as well as Sun Siyam Media Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Asif.
