Thursday, 12th August – the Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives had confirmed on new relaxation measures.

According to the authority, holidaymakers flying in to Maldives following full vaccination will be able check-in to guesthouses and similar tourist properties in Greater Male’ Region.

Though a comparatively relaxed move, the need for guests to be fully vaccinated in order to check-in to guesthouses in the region comes as a means of safety measures since Maldives capital has yet to achieve the required vaccination target.

Moreover, the guideline publicized by the authority on Wednesday morning, 11th August, noted on fully vaccinated tourists who had received the final vaccine dose at least 14 days prior to their arrival, will be included among the exempted list of travelers – granting them check-in opportunities at local guesthouses across the atolls.

As per HPA, they consider full vaccination to be two doses of WHO-approved Covid-19 vaccines and 14 days must have elapsed since the administration of the second dose.

Meanwhile, restrictions on tourists who have not acquired full dosage of the Covid-19 vaccination still remain. However, if the local islands exceed 60% in its fully vaccinated population or 95% of the individuals involved in tourism services or affiliated services have fully vaccinated, then the tourists are able to check-in regardless of their vaccination status.

In addition to this, unvaccinated tourists visiting locally inhabited or residential islands that meet required vaccination targets, must get a PCR test done 7 days from the date of their check-in.
