    India overtakes Russia to become top-source market to Maldives

    India overtakes Russia to become the top source market to Maldives

    According to the latest updates from Ministry of Tourism, India has taken over Russia to become the top source market to Maldives as of 08th September 2021.

    Moreover, the state body in their latest statistical update confirmed that the total number of arrivals from India reached 172,104 so far which is 21.8% of the total arrivals to Maldives. Meanwhile, the cumulative arrival total from Russia is at 162,801 which is 20.6% of the total arrivals to the country.

    Furthermore, the total arrivals to Maldives as of 08th September has reached 788,846. So far the total arrivals from 01st until 08th of September exclusively at 32,880 indicating 10.4% increment in comparison with the same period in 2019 and a 1,329.6% increment in comparison with the corresponding period in 2020.

    On the other hand, other top source markets to Maldives include Germany with a total arrival of 46,218 holidaymakers, which is 5.9% of the total arrivals.

    Moreover, other top source markets to Maldives include;

    • USA – 31,793 arrivals (4.0%)
    • Ukraine – 27,386 arrivals (3.5%)
    • Saudi Arabia – 26,436 arrivals (3.4%)
    • Spain – 23,102 arrivals (2.9%)
    • United Kingdom – 17,548 arrivals (2.2%)
    • Kazakhstan – 17,460 arrivals (2.2%)
    • France – 15,067 arrivals (1.9%)

    Meanwhile a total of 155 resorts out of the 163 registered tourist resorts are operational, which holds a combined bed capacity of 36,832. From the 758 registered hotels and guesthouses, 552 are operational which holds a combined bed capacity of 10,778.

    So far 143 safari vessels and liveaboards from the 161 registered vessels are operational, which translates to a combined bed capacity of 2,828.
