    The Maldives has won in four different segments under the Indian Ocean category at the “World Travel Awards 2021.”

    Moreover, at the 28th edition of the World Travel Awards, Maldives had won accolades in;

    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2021
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination 2021
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2021
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2021

    Furthermore, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has confirmed of receiving the award of Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2021 at the Travel Awards.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, the Managing Director of MMPRC has expressed his delight on the accolades and noted on the honor Maldives has received with the win. In addition to this, Mr. Thoyyib stated that the win at World Travel Awards indicates fruition of the hard work and dedication of the tourism industry collectively.

    Moreover, Mr. Thoyyib further stressed on the commitment of the staff of MMPRC who had been instrumental in the organization receiving this recent global recognition.

    The island nation’s tourist industry hit a dent in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in an international travel restriction and a subsequent border closure. This pushed down the number of tourist arrivals last year, which had only reached an annual total of 555,494.

    However, the industry has been showing significant improvement in the current year while the recent statistics from the Ministry of Tourism confirm the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far has reached 923,146.

    The World Travel Awards is a global service excellence recognition brand which was first launched in 1993.
