    Tourist arrivals to Maldives reach over 1.16mn by November end

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceed over 1.16mn by November end

    According to the latest statistical updates from Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives reached 1,162,425.

    Furthermore, the total tourist arrivals for the month of November 2021 observed a 4.9% increment with an arrival total of 144,725 exclusively in the preceding month when compared with the same period in 2019 where the total arrival stood at 137,921.

    On the other hand, tourist arrivals in November 2021 observed a 304.7% increase compared with the same month in 2020 where the arrival total stood at just 35,757.

    Moreover, the daily arrival average during the month ended reached 4,824 while the average duration of stay decreased from 8.3-days in October to 8.0-days in November.

    Meanwhile, the top five source market rankings remained unchanged with India leading the lot; observing a total arrival of 261,164 from the country so far (22.5% of the total arrivals), while Russia maintained second spot with 205,246 arrivals so far (17.7%).

    Germany held tight to the third spot with 83,817 arrivals from the country so far (7.2%), USA contributed with 48,949 arrivals to Maldives so far (4.2%) while United Kingdom contributed with 46,177 (4.0%) so far.

    However, in light of the new Omicron variant of the Covid-19 already discovered from the US and UK, the countries have imposed new travel restrictions limiting inbound and outbound travel which in turn, is expected to reflect on the prospective arrivals to the Maldives in the following weeks.
