    Maldives has once again secured World’s Leading Destination title along with other accolades at the World Travel Awards 2021.

    Furthermore, the win was announced at the WTA 2021 ceremony held virtually on 16th December, Thursday of last week.

    Speaking about latest achievement, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed expressed his gratitude to everyone who voted for the island nation at the awarding ceremony.

    Moreover, the MMPRC front-man noted the contributions of the Government of Maldives, Ministry of Tourism along with other tourism industry affiliated authorities, associations and NGOs without whom the achievement may have been more challenging.

    Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed had further acknowledged the efforts of the MMPRC employees in maintaining destination presence, marketing the country as a safe haven and promoting tourism products across various global travel and trade fairs.

    This marks the second time Maldives has achieved the World’s Leading Destination award at the WTA while the country managed to win the same title in 2020 despite facing the most challenging periods in the island nation’s tourism industry.

    In addition to winning the world’s leading destination accolade, Maldives had also won four other awards in the Indian Ocean category which includes;

    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2021
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2021
    • Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2021

    Meanwhile, Maldives has won the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination title 14 times within the past 18 years.
