    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed over 1.2mn so far in 2021

    The latest updates from Ministry of Tourism confirm that the total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has crossed over 1.2 million as of 22nd December 2021.

    Moreover, as per the state body by the review period the total number of tourist arrivals has reached exactly to 1,271,020 on annual terms.

    Furthermore, tourist arrivals exclusively from 01st until 22nd December stood at 113,367 indicating a growth of 79.8% compared to the same period in 2020 during which the arrival count stood at 63,053.

    However, the tourist arrivals in the review month is still 2.2% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019 during which it stood at 115,914.

    Meanwhile, the daily average arrival of tourists have increased to 5,153 during the review period in comparison to 4,824 daily-average arrival total in November. The average duration of stay has remained constant at 8.0-days in December as compared to the preceding month.

    Furthermore, India maintains top source market position with a total arrival of 286,434(22.5%) in annual terms while Russia remains in second spot with 214,232 (16.9%) arrivals in annual terms while Germany is the third strongest source market with an annual arrival total of 90,732 (7.1%).

    United Kingdom has replaced USA as the fourth strongest source market with an annual arrival total of 58,514 while total arrivals from USA on annual terms is at 54,220.
