    Over 55K tourists visit the Maldives by second week of January

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives indicate 52.9% increment so far in 2022

    According to the latest updates from Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals as of 12th January 2022 has reached 55,055.

    Compared with the tourist arrivals for the corresponding period in 2021, tourist arrivals in current year observed a 52.9% increment. In 2021, during the same period the tourist arrivals had reached 36,003.

    On the other hand, when compared with the arrival total of the same period in 2020, the arrival count in the current year is still 19.99% below – arrival total for the same period in 2020 stood at 67,281.

    In addition to this, the arrival total for the corresponding period in 2019 stood at 56,186 indicating a 2.03% drop in the current year.

    Meanwhile, the daily arrival average so far in 2022 stands at 4,588 while the average duration of stay has increased to 9.1-days. During 2021 the duration of stay in annual terms stood at 8.7-days, which stood at 7.2-days in 2020 and in 2019 the average duration of stay stood at 6.3-days in annual terms.

    Russia leads the top ten source market batch with 11,007 total arrivals to the Maldives so far, which is 20.0% of all the tourist arrivals to the island nation. Italy is currently in second spot with 4,313 total arrivals so far which is 7.8% of the total arrivals.

    United Kingdom places third with 3,085 arrivals so far, which is 5.6% of the total arrivals while India closely follows behind with 3,075 arrivals and holds the same arrival percentage.
