    Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdulla Shahid confirms Maldivian government’s support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the World Expo 2030 at Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh.

    The Maldives government’s support was affirmed by Mr. Shahid via a phone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Wednesday, 26th January 2022 evening.

    During the conversation, Minister Mr. Shahid had further discussed on bilateral affairs and discoursed on methods to enhance better cooperation between the two countries.

    In addition to this, another major topic of discussion between the two was related to the infrastructural development projects in the Maldives that are carried through the assistance and endorsement of Saudi Arabian government via the Saudi Fund for Development.

    Furthermore, both dignitaries emphasized on renewed commitment to strengthen the long-standing fraternal ties between both the countries. In addition to this, both the ministers had reaffirmed confidence in working collaboratively on issues of mutual interest in both bilateral and international scales.

    Saudi Arabia is one among five countries contending to host the coveted World Expo 2030 with Russia, Ukraine, South Korea and Italy being its competitors for the event’s bid.

    The last edition of the World Expo was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 2021 while the next event, World Expo 2025 will be hosted in Japan.
