    Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated a special memorial enacted as a tribute to the former chairman of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), the late Mr. Mohamed Rasheed.

    The special memorial for the former chairman, who had served in the utility sector for more than fifty years, was opened on Tuesday morning during a special ceremony held at STELCO headquarters.

    In his condolence message, the Maldives head of state noted on the numerous efforts, commitments and achievements made by the late Mr. Mohamed Rasheed in fostering and expanding electricity and utility services across the Maldives.

    Furthermore, President Solih reminisced the former chairman’s dedication and punctuality to his work, praising the late Mr. Rasheed as a skilled and tactful engineer.

    President Solih further made emphasis on the integrity and loyalty Mr. Rasheed had shown to his work and responsibilities.

    In his condolence message, the current Managing Director of STELCO, Mr. Hassan Mughnee noted the lengthy tenure of the late Mr. Rasheed, and noted that he was committed to the energy and utility sector post education up to his demise.

    The inaugural ceremony for the special memorial was attended by senior officials of STELCO, board members as well as the family of the late Mr. Rasheed.

    Mr. Rasheed passed away on 26th December 2021 due to a terminal illness. He first joined STELCO back in 1971 under an apprenticeship. Throughout his lengthy career at STELCO, Mr. Rasheed had filled several designations which included Engineer, Deputy Director Managerial, Executive Director, Assistant Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director as well as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

    Mr. Rasheed was appointed as the Chairman of STELCO’s board on 12th February 2019, and he continued to serve the utility corporation as its Chairman until his demise.
