    Tourist arrivals increase by 47.8% annually

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives observe 47.8% annual growth

    The latest update from the Ministry of Tourism confirmed that the total number of tourist arrivals reached 394,200 as of 23rd March 2022.

    Furthermore, the tourist arrivals to the Maldives in annual terms observed an increment of 47.8% when compared with the corresponding period in 2021; during which the annual total of tourist arrivals reached 266,754.

    On the other hand, tourist arrivals from 01st to 23rd March exclusively stood at 113,428 indicating an increment of 45.9% when compared with the same period in 2021 during which it reached 77,769.

    Despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the former has maintained the top tourism source market spot with an annual arrival total of 50,832 which is 12.9% of the market share.

    Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is swiftly closing in on at second spot with an annual arrival total of 44,597 which is 11.3% of the market share. Other top source markets to the Maldives include;

    • India – 41,559 (10.5%)
    • Germany – 31,724 (8.0%)
    • Italy – 27,442 (7.0%)
    • France – 19,126 (4.9%)
    • United States – 17,176 (4.4%)
    • Saudi Arabia – 9,566 (2.4%)
    • Switzerland – 8,962 (2.3%)
    • Austria – 8,468 (2.1%)

    Interestingly, Ukraine which held the eighth rank in the top source market list two review weeks before had slipped to the tenth spot on the second-to-last review. However, in the most recent update, the source market had completely slipped out from the top-ten list.
