    Tourist arrivals to Maldives increase by 55%

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives increase by 55% so far in 2022

    The latest update from Ministry of Tourism reveals that the tourist arrival to the Maldives increased by 55.0% on annual terms by May 2022 end.

    As per the latest statistical updates from the ministry, tourist arrivals were observed at a total of 706,468 by 01st June 2022.

    Meanwhile, the total tourist arrivals for the month of May exclusively was recorded at 125,522 observing an increment of 94.3% for the month when compared with the same month in 2021 during which the total tourist arrivals were recorded at 64,613 and in 2020 arrivals in May were recorded at just 41.

    On the other hand, tourist arrivals in May 2019 were recorded at 103,023 indicating a 21.8% improvement in the review month of the current year.

    The daily arrival average in May was at 4,049 while in 2022 so far, the daily arrival average was at 4,648. Meanwhile, the average duration of stay in May dropped down to 7.2-days from 8.1-days in April.

    • India – 99,614 arrivals (14.1%)
    • United Kingdom – 88,043 arrivals (12.5%)
    • Russia – 67,088 arrivals (9.5%)
    • Germany – 59,731 arrivals (8.5%)
    • Italy – 45,198 arrivals (6.4%)
    • United States – 33,297 arrivals (4.7%)
    • France – 28,491 arrivals (4.0%)
    • Switzerland – 17,553 arrivals (2.5%)
    • Saudi Arabia – 15,371 arrivals (2.2%)
    • Austria – 12,857 arrivals (1.8%)

    The Maldivian tourism industry by the latest review date has a combined bed capacity of 54,852 beds collectively from all tourism properties which includes 164 operational tourist resorts, 660 hotels and guesthouses and 150 safari vessels.
