    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 730k, Indian arrivals over 100k

    The latest update from Ministry of Tourism reveal that the total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached 732,884 as of 08th June 2022.

    Meanwhile, tourist arrivals in annual terms increased by 56.5% compared to the same period in 2021 during which tourist arrivals stood at just 468,387.

    Despite strong improvement in 2022 compared to 2021, the tourist arrivals in annual terms was still 6.2% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019 during which the tourist arrival total stood at 780,931.

    From 01st until 08th June, the total tourist arrivals in 2022 reached 30,562 observing a staggering 118.2% improvement over the same period in 2021 during which tourist arrivals stood at just 14,004 while it was still 3.9% below the arrival number in 2019 during which it stood at 31,817.

    Meanwhile, India remains as the strongest source market to the Maldives with 104,800 arrivals so far in 2022 which is 14.3% of the total tourist arrivals to the island nation while United Kingdom is ranked second with 90,394 arrivals so far in 2022 which 12.3% of the total tourist arrivals.

    Other source market details include;

    • Russia – 03rd rank with 70,212 arrivals (9.6%)
    • Germany – 04th rank with 62,950 arrivals (8.6%)
    • Italy – 05th rank with 46,111 arrivals (6.3%)
    • United States – 06th rank with 34,609 arrivals (4.7%)
    • France – 07th rank with 28,904 arrivals (3.9%)
    • Switzerland – 08th rank with 17,776 arrivals (2.4%)
    • Saudi Arabia – 09th rank with 15,992 arrivals (2.2%)
    • Spain – 10th rank with 13,315 arrivals (1.8%)

    The daily arrival average so far in June stood at 3,820 whereas in annual terms it is currently at 4,603. On the other hand the average duration of guest stay from 01st until 08th June is recorded at 7.8-days while in annual terms it is at 8.2-days.

    Meanwhile, a total of 24 international airlines are operating between the Maldives which include globally renowned carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot among several others.
