    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 780k by late-June 2022

    According to the most recent updates from Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals reached 784,107 as of 22nd June 2022.

    Meanwhile, tourist arrivals so far in the year has observed an increment of 58.4% when compared with the corresponding period in 2021. During the same period last year, Maldives welcomed a total of 494,924 arrivals.

    Though the tourist arrivals showed significant improvement in 2022 compared to the previous year, it is still 5.7% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019 (for the same period).

    As such, tourist arrivals to the island nation was recorded at 831,549 during the same period in 2019.

    The top-ten source market list remains unchanged for the most part, with the exception of Spain replacing Austria as the tenth strongest source market. The details are as follows;

    • India – 115,228 arrivals (14.7%)
    • United Kingdom – 94,279 arrivals (12.0%)
    • Russia – 77,781 arrivals (9.9%)
    • Germany – 65,928 arrivals (8.4%)
    • Italy – 48,052 arrivals (6.1%)
    • United States – 37,530 arrivals (4.8%)
    • France – 29,555 arrivals (3.8%)
    • Switzerland – 18,197 arrivals (2.3%)
    • Saudi Arabia –  17,249 arrivals (2.2%)
    • Spain – 14,828 arrivals (1.9%)
