    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 800k by June end

    According to the latest update from Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals as of 29th June have been reported at 809,603.

    Tourist arrivals to the island nation indicated an increment of 59.2% in annual terms by the review period, compared to the corresponding period in 2021. In the same period last year, tourist arrivals were reported at just 508,691 while in 2020 it was reported at just 382,816.

    Despite strong flux of inbound travelers, the total tourist arrival count was still 5.6% below in annual terms compared to the same period in 2019.

    In 2019, for the same period, the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives was recorded at 857,823.

    Meanwhile, the daily tourist arrival average for June exclusively (excluding 30th June 2022) stood at 3,699 while in annual terms the daily tourist arrival average is currently at 4,698.

    On the other hand, the average duration of stay improved from 7.2 days in May 2022 to 7.8 days in June.

    The top tourist source market details are (as follows);

    • India – 119,967 (14.8%)
    • United Kingdom – 96,176 (11.9%)
    • Russia – 81,266 (10.0%)
    • Germany – 67,608 (8.4%)
    • Italy – 48,914 (6.0%)
    • United States – 39,016 (4.8%)
    • France – 29,806 (3.7%)
    • Switzerland – 18,402 (2.3%)
    • Saudi Arabia –  17,803 (2.2%)
    • Spain –  15,820 (2.0%)

    As of 29th June 2022, Maldives tourism industry has a total of 1,155 operational tourist properties which contributes to a combined operational bed capacity of 57,339.
