    Tourist arrivals 40k away from hitting millionth mark

    Tourist arrivals just 40k away from hitting the millionth mark

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach 960,075 as of 03rd August 2022, with approximately 40,000 shy from hitting the millionth mark.

    According to the Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals in annual terms observed an increment of 53.3% increment compared to same period in 2021. However, it was still 4.8% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

    Tourist arrivals in annual terms for the same period last year stood at 626,314. By the same period in 2019, arrivals breached millionth mark to hit 1,008,734.

    On the other hand, tourist arrivals for July 2022 stood at 133,561 indicating an increment of 31.5% compared to July 2021. During the said month last year, arrivals stood at 101,818.

    Additionally, arrivals for July observed a modest 1.1% increment compared to same month in 2019, where arrival total stood at 132,144.

    Source market remains unchanged. The detail are as follows;

    • India – 137,790 arrivals (14.4%)
    • UK – 111,657 arrivals (11.6%)
    • Russia – 103,365 arrivals (10.8%)
    • Germany – 77,306 arrivals (8.1%)
    • Italy – 54,822 arrivals (5.7%)
    • USA – 46,518 arrivals (4.8%)
    • France – 32,163 arrivals (3.4%)
    • Saudi Arabia – 23,062 arrivals (2.4%)
    • Spain – 21,212 arrivals (2.2%)
    • Switzerland – 21,208 arrivals (2.2%)
