    Tourist arrivals to Maldives up by 49.1%

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives increase by 49.1% in annual terms

    According to Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals has shot up 49.1% in annual terms. This improvement is placed in comparison with the same duration in 2021.

    So far, the authority attests on a total of 1,014,138 tourist arrivals. In 2021, for the same period, the total arrivals stood at 680,324.

    Despite strong improvement, this was still 4.9% lower compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019, where it stood at 1,065,976.

    Daily arrival average in annual terms has reached 4,487. Meanwhile, from 1st to 14th August, daily arrival average stood at 4,812. Average duration of stay in annual terms is at 8.2 days, while for the period of 1st to 14th August it stood at 8.5 days.

    India remains as top source market with 14.3% of the market share, UK with 11.6% market share is in second spot. Russia is at third with an 11.0% market share, and Germany at fourth with a 7.9% market share.

    Tourist establishments are currently at a total of 1,180 inclusive of resorts, hotels, guesthouses and other properties. However, the operational total is at 1,173.

    The industry reports of a total bed capacity of 59,407, while the total operational bed capacity is at 58,418.
