    Maldives tourist arrivals exceed 1.02mn by mid-August

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceed 1.02mn by mid-August

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceed over 1.02 million as of 17th August 2022, reports Ministry of Tourism.

    According to the ministry’s recent statistical update, annual arrivals hit 1,028,467 by the review date. This marks an annual increment of 47.9% in comparison with same period last year that had an arrival total of 695,406.

    Despite tourism arrival breaching the millionth mark, arrivals remain 4.8% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019; during which annual arrivals stood at 1,080,128.

    Meanwhile, the daily arrival average in annual terms is at 4,491 while from 1st to 17th August it is at 4,806. Average duration of stay in annual terms is at 8.2 days, while from 1st to 17th August it is at 8.5 days.

    Source market rankings remain unchanged;

    1. India – 146,923 (14.3%)
    2. United Kingdom – 118,734 (11.5%)
    3. Russia – 114,577 (11.1%)
    4. Germany – 81,600 (7.9%)
    5. Italy – 61,221 (6.0%)
    6. United States – 48,797 (4.7%)
    7. France – 33,632 (3.3%)
    8. Saudi Arabia – 24,707 (2.4%)
    9. Spain – 24,694 (2.4%)
    10. Switzerland – 21,696 (2.1%)

    At the time of writing, Maldives reports a total of 1,176 tourist properties at operational capacity. This translates to a combined total of operational bed capacity at 58,317.
