    Tourist arrivals to Maldives reach over 1.057 million

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increase 45% by late August 2022

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach 1,056,851 by late August, reports Ministry of Tourism.

    According to the state body, as of 24th August 2022, tourist arrivals to the Maldives observed an annual increment of 45.0% compared to the same period in 2021. Tourist arrivals for the same period last year stood at 729,053.

    However, tourist arrivals for 2022 was still 4.8% below in comparison to the same period in 2019, during which the arrival total reached 1,110,662.

    Meanwhile, the daily arrival average is at 4,478. The average duration of guest stay is currently 8.2 days.

    Tourism source markets remain unchanged, which include;

    1. India – 150,228 (14.2%)
    2. UK – 121,407 (11.5%)
    3. Russia – 119,437 (11.3%)
    4. Germany – 83,828 (7.9%)
    5. Italy – 63,018 (6.0%)
    6. USA – 49,845 (4.7%)
    7. France – 34,120 (3.2%)
    8. Spain – 26,336 (2.5%)
    9. Saudi Arabia – 25,517 (2.4%)
    10. Switzerland – 21,891 (2.1%)

    Tourist establishments at an operational capacity is currently at 1,177. This translates to a combined bed capacity of 58,323.
