    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach over 1.13m by mid September

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach a total of over 1.13 million as of 14th September 2022, reports Ministry of Tourism.

    The latest statistical update confirms exact total at 1,130,035.

    According to the state body, tourist arrivals by the review period increased by 38.9% in annual terms, when compared with the corresponding period in 2021. However, it was still 4.8% below pre-pandemic levels – corresponding period in 2019.

    Statistics confirm tourist arrivals in annual terms reached 813,690 by the same period  in 2021, whereas in 2019 arrival total in annual terms stood at 1,186,753.

    3. UK – 127,300
    4. Germany – 89,552
    5. Italy – 66,306
    6. USA – 53,371
    7. France – 35,115
    8. Spain – 29,252
    9. Saudi Arabia – 26,455
    10. Switzerland – 22,751

    Tourist accommodation (at operational capacity);

    • Resorts – 164 (40,053 beds)
    • Hotels and Guesthouses – 863 (15,500 beds)
    • Safari Vessels – 155 (1,616 beds)
