    Tourist arrivals in 2022 surpass 2021 annual total

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives in 2022 exceed annual total in 2021

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of 02nd November 2022 has surpassed the annual tourist arrivals recorded in 2021.

    According to Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals by the review date has reached an annual total of 1,354,828. This indicated a 32.5% annual increment compared with 2021; during which arrival total stood at 1,022,481. However, the arrival count so far in 2022 is still 3.4% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019; during which arrival total had reached 1,402,626.

    The daily arrival average in annual terms reached 4,428 whereas the average duration of stay is currently 8.1 days in annual terms.

    Source market rankings remain unchanged, while arrivals from India is inching close to hit 200,000 annual arrivals. The details are as follows;

    1. India: 191,524
    2. Russia: 166,250
    3. UK: 147,535
    4. Germany: 110,823
    5. Italy: 75,088
    6. USA: 63,508
    7. France: 39,361
    8. Spain: 35,216
    9. Saudi Arabia: 28,887
    10. Switzerland: 28,386

    Meanwhile a total of 1,199 are currently registered out of which 1,195 are operational. The combined bed capacity of Maldives tourism industry is at 59,853 out of which 58,957 are operational. Tourist property details are as follows;

    • Tourist resorts: 170 registered — 41,285 beds | 166 operational – – 40,389 beds
    • Hotels & Guesthouses: 872 registered — 15,668 beds | fully operational
    • Safari vessels: 157 registered — 2,900 beds | fully operational

    So far, a total of 29 airlines are operating to the Maldives, while recent aviation news updates confirm several notable international carriers were launching their direct flight operations ahead of tourism peak season (winter holidays).
