Sun Investment has been ordered to pay MVR1.4 million as compensation over an unlawful employment termination.
Employment Tribunal of the Maldives demanded the company to pay the amount for its unlawful sacking of one of its employees at Sun Aqua Iru Fushi. The individual in question, has been the resort’s Resident Manager since 2019 until their termination in February 2021.
The tribunal demanded Sun Investment pay MVR993,000 in remuneration and allowances deducted from the employee, as compensation. Additionally, the tribunal ordered the company pay another MVR462,000 – which is the employee’s remuneration and allowances for a six-month period.
In its judgment, the tribunal confirmed the employee had been fired without providing them with proper notice. Employment Tribunal ordered Sun Investment to settle the compensation under three months.
