    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 97,000

    Maldives tourist arrivals exceed 97,000; observes 22.8% increment in annual terms

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives reached over 97,000 as of 18th January, reports the Ministry of Tourism.

    According to the ministry, tourist arrivals reached a total of 97,873 by the review date. The annual arrival count by the review date is up by 22.8% when compared with the same period in 2022.

    Tourist arrivals for the same period last year reached 79,718. In 2021, tourist arrivals for the same period had reached 52,943.

    Meanwhile, the daily arrival average is at 5,437 by the review date. The average duration of stay is at 8.2 days.

    Tourist Accommodation (Operational)

    • Resorts: 168 (41,049 beds)
    • Hotels: 13 (1,640 beds)
    • Guesthouses: 874 (14,144 beds)
    • Safari Vessels: 157 (2,901 beds)

    Share of Beds by Type of Facility

    • Resorts: 69%
    • Guesthouses: 23%
    • Safari Vessels: 5%
    • Hotels: 3%

    A total of 36 international airlines operate to the Maldives which include notable carriers such as Aeroflot, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines.

    Meanwhile, three Chinese airlines have reported commencing direct flights to the Maldives. A few days earlier, Beijing Capital’s first direct flight to the Maldives, carrying Chinese arrivals for the first time since 2020 landed at Velana International Airport (VIA).
