    Maldives tourist arrivals increase by 30.9% in January 2023

    Maldives tourist arrivals increase by 30.9% in January 2023

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increased by 30.9% in January 2023 according to the Ministry of Tourism.

    The ministry has reported a total arrival of 172,536 for January 2023, while arrivals in the same month last year stood at 131,762. Additionally, tourist arrivals in January 2021 stood at just 92,103; owing to the onset of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

    Tourist arrivals from 01st to 04th February stood at 5,623 which is a 28.3% increment compared to the same duration in 2022 during which arrivals stood at 4,384. Moreover, arrivals in the same duration in 2021 stood at just 2,158.

    Meanwhile, the daily arrival average in January is at 5,566 and 5,623 so far in February. The annual arrival average is currently at 5,567.

    The average duration of stay was at 8.1 days in January, and has risen to 8.2 days for the reviewed period of February.

    Switzerland has once again entered the top 10 list after replacing Kazakhstan in the ninth spot. Moreover, Poland, a new market, has entered the top 10 list after replacing South Korea in the tenth spot.

    A total of 36 international airlines operate direct flights to the Maldives, with notable recent entries including Capital Airlines, Eurowings Discover, Salam Air, and Smartwings.
