Marriott International Maldives and the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) have collaborated to launch the Maldives’ first Laundry Certification Program.

The program was launched with the approval of the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA). The program was initiated to train and upskill local talent in hospitality laundry operations.

Moreover, the program aimed to maintain the highest hygiene standards with a priority on guest safety and brand standards. The program is also extended to local talents pursuing career opportunities in hospitality laundry operations from the islands of K. Maafushi and K. Gulhi.

The course enrolled 21 local associates from Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of seven resorts in the Maldives. The course focused on developing and upskilling the laundry operational skills of locals.

All the course sessions were delivered by laundry leaders of the resorts and headed by a faculty from MIT. The program ran for four months with regular virtual theory sessions and physical practical sessions at respective resorts.

Participants were also given pre-assessments at their respective resorts to prepare them ready for the final examination. Comprised of two parts – a written paper and a VIVA examination – the final examination was held at Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. The examination was held under the direct supervision of a chief invigilator nominated by the MNSDA.

Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of resorts in the Maldives include The Ritz-Carlton, Fari Islands, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa, W Maldives, Le Meridien Resort & Spa, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, and The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort.
