A team of journalists from India is currently visiting the Maldives on an invitation from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The team is in the Maldives as part of MMPRC’s continued series of familiarization trips to provide first-hand experience of the country’s hospitality industry.

During the trip, the reporters will “immerse themselves in the tourism offers, unique experiences, and exciting encounters awaiting tourists in the Sunny Side of Life”; according to MMPRC.

Reporters on the trip represent key Indian media publications such as Indulge Express (NIE), The Sunday Guardian, ET Travel World, and Dainik Jagran. Additionally, the team comprises a freelance writer contributing to Indian, American, and European publications, and one PR representative.

The team will be staying in the Maldives from 20th to 26th February and will be hosted at different properties which include Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort, Sun Siyam Iruveli, West Sands Ukulhas, Ranthari Guesthouse & Spa, and Nala Veli Maldives.

Activities the team will reportedly engage in during their stay include local island tours; snorkeling, and visiting whale shark/manta and turtle points; sunset cruises; sandbank visits, coral planting programs; cooking classes among several other activities.

The team of journalists will relay their experiences through articles and multimedia content to potential travelers in India and beyond. Their combined reach is estimated to go beyond 4,952,250+ readers.

This familiarization trip is part of MMPRC’s marketing strategy for India, which focuses on sharing key destination information via social media platforms and online media that are most commonly used in the Indian market. The strategy also aims to promote affordable and luxury accommodation options to the Indian consumers and establish the Maldives as a top-of-the-mind destination in the market.

India continues to remain among one of the strongest markets to the Maldives, while it concluded 2022 as the top source market with 241,369 annual arrivals recorded by 31st December; which is 14.4% percent of the total market share.
